Meet Clara Mah:
Recipient of The 27th Elijah Straw Helping Hand Award
Clara Mah: Recipient of the 27th Elijah Straw Helping Hand Award
The Elijah Straw Memorial Fund and the entire Straw Family were honored to present O'Hara Elementary School fifth grader Clara Mah with the twenty-seventh Elijah Straw Helping Hand Award for her exceptional friendship, kindness towards others, overall good citizenship, and most of all, for embodying the core values ("Respect, Responsibility, Integrity") of O'Hara Elementary School. Clara received a certificate of merit and a Barnes & Noble gift card! The Fund will also be donating to the charity of Clara's choice an amount equal to the B&N gift card in Clara's name.
Mrs. Mueller, Clara's teacher and nominator, has this to say about her:
Clara is kind and considerate to both her classmates and her teachers. She asks about her teacher’s day, opens doors, and cleans up messes she did not create herself . . . a true community member [who] puts others before herself . . . a true community member [who] puts others before herself. Clara offers help to her classmates with schoolwork. She notices children struggling to find books and other materials, and she jumps up to help them. She recognizes when a classmate is confused by a problem or question and she readily offers to help . . . and does her best to help them with a kind word or action.
Well done, Clara! We look forward to seeing what you pick up at Barnes & Noble!
