Meet Emily Torbert:
Recipient of The 21st Elijah Straw Helping Hand Award
Emily Torbert: Recipient of the 21st Elijah Straw Helping Hand Award
The Elijah Straw Memorial Fund and the entire Straw Family were honored to present O'Hara Elementary School fifth grader Emily Torbert with the twenty-first Elijah Straw Helping Hand Award for her exceptional friendship, kindness towards others, overall good citizenship, and most of all, for embodying the core values ("Respect, Responsibility, Integrity") of O'Hara Elementary School. Emily received a certificate of merit and a Barnes & Noble gift card! The Fund will also be donating to the charity of Emily's choice an amount equal to the B&N gift card in Emily's name.
Emily's teachers had this to say about her: “Emily is kind and gracious to everyone. She helps anyone who struggles and reaches out when someone needs a friend.” Mr. Funk added, "She is one of the nicest 5th graders that I know.”
Good work, Emily! By the way, Mr. Funk also stated that you have many qualities that remind him of our dear Elijah. So, you pretty much had usat "hello"! We wish you the best of luck as you take your kindness and empathy into middle school and beyond!
